Should You Leave the Washing Machine Door Open After Use?
Leaving your washing machine door open after each cycle might seem like a small habit, but it can make a big difference in keeping your appliance fresh, clean, and long-lasting. Here’s why it matters.
Why You Should Leave It Open
After a wash cycle, the inside of your machine remains damp. Closing the door traps moisture, creating the perfect environment for mould, bacteria, and unpleasant odours to form on the rubber seal and drum.
How Long Should You Leave It Open?
Ideally, keep the door and detergent drawer open for a few hours after each wash. This allows all moisture to evaporate fully. For front-loading models, it’s especially important, as their rubber seals tend to trap water more easily.
Other Ways to Keep Your Washer Fresh
- Wipe down the rubber seal and drum regularly to remove residue
- Use a washing machine cleaner or run a hot empty cycle monthly
- Avoid using too much detergent – it can leave behind build-up
